Press Release – April 2018
THE INFINITE DARK travels the path to faerie with one of the genre’s masters. Poet Jane Yolen, often called America’s Hans Christian Andersen, collaborates with acoustic trio 3 Ravens to bring music to her verses in a collection of readings, songs, and instrumentals.
3 Ravens band members Lui Collins, Max Cohen and Donna Hébert sing lead and harmony, with Max’s guitar stitching songs to spoken-word tracks. Donna’s lush Celtic fiddle surfaces throughout. Lui’s ukulele, piano and banjo add to the instrumental mix, while her clear and lovely alto voice takes the listener deep into the song.
”A magical, buoyant evening of delicious harmonies, thrilling fiddling, songs from the Celtic traditions and from each of the performers’ repertoires, accentuated by Jane Yolen’s elegant poetry.. Something for everyone in a delightful package.” Carol Allen, Music on Centre, Roxbury MA (2017)
“Elegant, mystical, delicate tales told in imaginative ways. Every tune they spin turns to gold. Just gorgeous!” Wanda Adams Fischer, WAMC Hudson Valley Sampler DJ (2017)
A ten-track suite about shapeshifting Selkies and mermaids adds the powerful voice of Molly Hebert-Wilson and the pennywhistle of Sarah Bauhan.
Later tracks delve into darker European folklore, coming face to face with the all-too-human penchant for inhumanity. Jane’s new twist on old tales blends seamlessly with Max’s original songs and the CD winds up in Goldilocks’ garden, with the bears, of course.
2018 is the year Jane publishes her 365th and 366th book. This project is in addition to that singular accomplishment.
THE INFINITE DARK is due for a fall 2018 release. THE INFINITE DARK show is available during the academic year to venues in the northeast U.S. & Canada. Please contact Donna at [email protected] or Lui at [email protected] for more information.
